Understanding health insurance can be very difficult and complex at times. First there is the insurance company which underwrites the policy. This year the student health insurance company is UnitedHealthcare. Then there is a Third Party Administrator, known as the TPA. They process the claims, pay providers and reimburse patients for covered expenses. The TPA this year is UnitedHealthcare - StudentResources. Last but not least there is usually a Healthcare Advocate, or liaison between the patient and the TPA. Your health care advocate company is simply called "Health Advocate".   For contact information, click on the link above (10-11 Synopsis of contact information for United Healthcare).

Most health insurance companies have contracts with 'networks'. Networks are groups of providers and pharmacies that agree to accept less payment for their services. The networks associated with the current student health insurance is UnitedHealthcare Options PPO and for medication it is MEDCO.

If you have any questions that cannot be answered by the above links, please contact health@dickinson.edu.

If you have other insurance and belong to a Managed Care network such as a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO), you must notify them of the visit and charges by phone within a certain time (usually 24 hours) in order to be reimbursed for the expense. Each insurance carrier is different, so you should familiarize yourself with your specific policy guidelines for notification and reimbursement.
