Q. What is the internship transcript notation program?
A. The transcript notation program allows you to receive official college recognition for your internship. The program runs from the beginning of the semester or summer to the end. While in the program, you'll do your internship and complete a corresponding reflective component. At the end of the semester or summer, if you have successfully completed both the internship and the reflective component, you will receive a notation on your transcript.

Q. Where have students interned?
A. Students have completed the transcript notation program at internship sites across the country and the world. For information and ideas, you can read student intern profiles and blogs and view a list of past internship sites.
Back to FAQs
Q. Why should I register for this program?
A. To receive official college recognition for the work you do. The reflective component will also guide you in your professional development and career exploration so that you will be more prepared for your next step (another internship, graduate school, or a job).
Back to FAQs
Q. When should I register?.
A. You should register BEFORE you start the internship. Then, while you do the internship, you will also do the reflective work. The program is set up so you do the internship and the reflections at the same time. We cannot grant notations retroactively. Check registration deadlines each semester.

Q. How do I register?
A. You can register through Gateway.
Once you log in to Gateway, you can access the internship registration form by clicking on the "Student Forms" tab. The internship registration form will be listed as one of your available forms on the left-hand menu.

Q. What do I need to do to get a transcript notation for my internship?
A. Here are the steps:
1. Secure an internship (the Career Center can help you with that if you need it)
2. Register through Gateway no later than 2 weeks into the start of the semester or summer
Then, while you are doing your internship, as part of the notation program, the Career Center will guide you through a reflective component. This component includes four reflections spread over the semester or summer, a brief pre- and post-assessment, and periodic timesheets. All correspondence is done online and the Career Center will support you throughout the experience. These things will help you think critically about your experience and you will be able to explain what you learned and why it was useful to you (which can help you make progress on your career goals).
Back to FAQs
Q. Do I get a grade?
A. No. There is no credit involved, so you will not receive a grade. Upon successful completion of the internship and reflective components, a notation will be included on your official transcript. If you do not successfully complete either of these, you will not receive the notation.

Q. Can I get credit?
A. Transcript notations are non-credit. In a few circumstances, credit is available:
1. If participating in a study abroad program (including The Washington Center or the Baruch Program),
check with the Global Education office; an internship might be integrated into an Intercultural Seminar
or independent study.
2. Environmental Science majors have an option to complete a one-credit internship as part of a
departmental graduation requirement. The academic department manages this process. Tuition fees
will apply.
