Dickinson Internship Programs

Dickinson Internship Programs

Internships Defined
A Dickinson internship is “a closely monitored applied experience in a professional setting, with definite learning objectives incorporating reflection on and integration of theories and concepts with practice.”
-Adopted by the Faculty in May, 2007

Dickinson provides official recognition for students’ internships through the Internship Transcript Notation Program. The program includes reflection on experiences throughout the internship, an evaluation of students’ learning, and students’ evaluation of their own experience. These requirements are administered by the Career Center.

Additional information about the transcript notation program can be found on the following pages:

Resources for students seeking internships
To assist students in registering for the Internship Transcript Notation Program
Once students log in to Gateway, they can access the internship registration form by clicking on the “Student Forms” tab. The internship registration form will be listed as one of the available forms on the left-hand menu. Students should only go to this page if:

1) they have already secured an internship, and
2) they have read the internship policies
Credit for internships: In some cases, students may be required to receive credit for internships for their major. Additionally, there may be times that the internship site may require credit. Students in these situations should register for an independent study. Finally, some study abroad programs allow internship credit. This will be handled through Center for Global Study and Engagement.  Students studying at The Washington Center will also be able to get internship credit.

Questions can be directed to Amity Fox, Internship Coordinator, in the Career Center at foxa@dickinson.edu or 717-245-1740.
