What
is the PCA?
The Pennsylvania Classical Association
is a non-profit professional organization of teachers and professors in Classics,
Latin, Greek and related disciplines, which seeks to promote knowledge and understanding
about the ancient Mediterranean world, especially the Roman and Greek cultures,
languages, and literatures, throughout all of Pennsylvania. To that end, the PCA
also seeks to provide a forum for support and resources for teachers. Membership
is open to classical professionals and students at all levels as well as amateur
classicists. Each fall the PCA hosts its annual Pennsylvania Classical Institute
which emphasizes the latest pedagogy in our field on all academic levels. This
two-day meeting occurs Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and rotates on a
cycle between the Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Harrisburg areas. The PCA is an
approved provider of professional development under Act 48, so every minute you
spend in a session at a PCA meeting will automatically count towards the state's
Act 48 requirement. Your participation hours
are submitted directly to the State Department of Education.
