Dear Dickinsonians and Friends:
The Strategic Plan you will find on this website was approved in principle on June 10 by the Dickinson College Board of Trustees.
It is the result of many months of hard work by members of a specially convened Strategic Planning Committee comprised of faculty, students, and administrators. This document takes into account the hundreds of comments from all Dickinson constituencies, including alumni, on an earlier version that was distributed on campus and via the Internet.
As you read the plan, please bear in mind that it represents the first two levels of strategic planning. At the first level, there are the mission and vision statements. At the second level, there are strategic objectives and goals organized around ten main themes. The third level, which is under development now, will include specific strategies formulated to meet our goals. This level will also include relevant benchmarks, budget factors, time frames, and responsible parties. In certain areas, such as enrollment management, this third level is already in place and has yielded extremely positive results.
We envision the plan as a progressive, living document. Please feel free to offer comments and suggestions – either on the nature of the goals and objectives or on the strategies needed in the next level. This document establishes Dickinson's story and borrows from both our distinguished past and our engaging future.
Thank you for your engagement with the strategic planning process at Dickinson. I look forward to your comments and suggestions as Dickinson works to be considered permanently and unequivocally as one of America's leading residential liberal arts colleges.
Sincerely,
William G. Durden '71
President
