How Can I Become Involved?

Register online as a volunteer in the the Dickinson Admissions Volunteer Society. Activities in which you will be asked to participate include:

  • Recommending and recruiting the best and brightest students from your home area
  • Sharing your ideas and advising the admissions staff
  • Meeting with interested seniors, counselors and teachers at local high schools
  • Contacting prospective students through e-mail, phone or mail
  • Attending on-campus or hometown receptions
  • Conducting informative and informal interviews with interested students in your local area
  • Representing Dickinson College at college fairs in your area

Representing Dickinson

The the Dickinson Admissions Volunteer Society offers you a very special opportunity. You'll have the chance to share your enthusiasm for the college and its distinctive academic programs with prospective students. As a volunteer representative, you will have a direct impact on students' decisions to enroll. Future generations of Dickinsonians will be shaped by your efforts.

Getting Ready

You know how important small classes and relationships with faculty are to the Dickinson experience. You know how strong the sense of community is here. You know how important it is to get involved and give something back.

We'll help with the rest. We'll provide you with information about our intensely investigative approach to teaching, our new and distinctive programs, and opportunities at the college of which you might not be aware. And we'll teach you about the admission process and how you can impact it.

Getting Started

Identify students in your home area with the potential to be successful Dickinsonians. Throughout the year, you will recruit those students as well as those already on the college's mailing list.

Can I Really Make a Difference?

Yes! If each active Dickinson alumnus or parent recruited just one well-qualified student annually, the college would not only reach an impressive level of selectivity but also would be able to shape each incoming class and maximize the experience for all of our students.

Career Center

Job Leads

Let the Career Center know when your employer has job openings for graduating students by e-mailing recruit@dickinson.edu. Please speak to your Human Resources office about the value of a Dickinson education and encourage them to place the Career Center on their mailing (or e-mail) list for job announcements.

Internships

If you or your employer is willing to sponsor an internship, please e-mail career@dickinson.edu. The internship program is flexible and students can participate in the summer, during the academic year or over the January break. Internships can be completed for credit if the appropriate arrangements are made.

Dickinson Works

The hallmark of our student networking programming is our online alumni and parent network, which provides Dickinsonians with an invaluable career development resource. By sharing career experiences, alumni and parents provide a wealth of opportunity and knowledge. A growing number of Dickinson alumni have volunteered to be part of the network and share information about their careers and offer suggestions to students. Signing up is easy. Just go to the Web site for more information.

The Career Center also works with alumni and parents on various special projects. Some of our recent projects have included:

  • Junior/Senior Networking Events- Alumni are invited back to campus to share career insight with seniors.
  • Career Programs-Alumni regularly visit campus to provide current students with information about specific career fields and other career topics.

College Relations

There are many ways you can work with the Office of College Relations to help promote Dickinson in your local area or make our alumni and parents programs even stronger.
  • Host or help organize club events for alumni and parents
  • Host a New Student Reception for newly admitted students
  • Provide contacts at media outlets, private schools or foundations
  • Serve on the Parents Council
  • Write articles or provide story ideas for the parent newsletter, InFocus
  • Implement programs for Homecoming & Family Weekend

If you are interested in assisting with any of these programs or you have an idea for a new program, please contact the appropriate office below. We look forward to hearing from you!
