Commencement Weekend
May 19–21, 2006
Parents of seniors: Commencement is right around the corner!
Saturday, May 20: Baccalaureate, traditionally the opening ceremony of Commencement Weekend, will be at 3 p.m. in front of Old West.
Sunday, May 21: Commencement will begin at 10 a.m. in front of Old West.
Memorable Moments: Professional photographers and videographers have been contracted for Commencement. Watch your mail for more information about ordering photos, videos or DVDs.
The Speaker: This year’s Commencement speaker will be the Honorable John E. Jones III ’77. Judge Jones recently has attracted national attention for his groundbreaking decision in the Dover School District case regarding the teaching of intelligent design. Judge Jones repeatedly has credited his Dickinson liberal-arts education for preparing him to evaluate the issues presented in this case as well as others he has heard as a federal district judge. He was appointed in 2002 by President George W. Bush as the U.S. District Judge/Middle District of Pennsylvania and was chairman of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board from 1995 to 2002.
After Commencement: There will be a college-sponsored brunch in the Holland Union Building. All graduates and their families are welcome. Each student may pick up four free tickets in the Office
of Conferences & Special Events. Additional tickets may be
purchased in that office or in Dining Services the week of Commencement.
More: A complete schedule and more information will be mailed to all seniors’ families. For a list of accommodations and restaurants, or if you have other questions,
