Spotlight on…Alyssa Carlow

Carlow charges forward, breaking records as she goes.

Having already earned more awards and records than anyone can count, Alyssa Carlow ’04 continues to carve a name for herself and for the Dickinson College Women’s Soccer Team this season.

With 57 goals and 135 points as a collegiate player, Carlow not only broke Dickinson’s records for all-time leading scores, career points and career assists, but she also tied the Centennial Conference (CC) women’s career-goal record and shattered the CC all-time point record. And she’s only a junior.

Yet her outstanding performance does not come as a surprise.
In her first year, Carlow set three college records with 22 goals and 51 points, and she scored the fastest hat-trick in NCAA history, leading the Red Devils to one of their best seasons in school history.

As a sophomore, she led the Centennial Conference with 17 goals and 42 points. She was unanimously nominated to the All-Centennial Conference First Team for the second time and selected as a Regional All-American. She also appeared in RealSports Magazine after combining with Amy Montalbano ’02 to score two of the fastest consecutive goals in NCAA history, the first in a span of 33 seconds and the second in just 31 seconds.

According to Coach Shellee Copley, however, Carlow is “a lot more than a goal scorer. She’s always hustling, pushing up on offense and getting back on defense. She sets a great example on the field. And she’s so humble about it.”

Carlow chose Dickinson’s Division III soccer program because she “didn’t want sports to rule [her] life.” And she immediately fell in love with her coach and her teammates. “As much as I enjoyed playing with my high school and club teams, the girls here [at Dickinson] are incomparable. It’s so great,” she says.
