Joseph Priestley Celebration
October 9, 2003

The 2003 Priestley Award was presented to Orrin H. Pilkey of Duke University, an expert on shorelines. Pilkey is a professor of geology and director of the Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines, which studies beach replenishment and other forms of shoreline stabilization. As part of the celebration he deliviered the lecture "Rising Seas and Shifting Shores: Science in a Political Maelstrom" in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter auditorium.
