Men's Lacrosse Service Trip
January, 2008

The men’s lacrosse team recently returned from a week-long service trip to New Mexico, where nearly 50 players and coaches volunteered at the Native American Community Academy and taught young tribal members the basics of the game.

“It was a decision we made as a team,” head coach Dave Webster told The Associated Press. “Part of the commitment we’re making is to make a difference on and off the field, and this is part of our learning experience.”

Dickinson players and coaches spent part of their winter break planting trees along the Rio Grande and making a walkway and garden area at the academy. They also conducted lacrosse clinics at the Albuquerque-based academy and at Laguna and Taos pueblos. The team donated sticks, gloves and pads to the American Indian charter school, which has students from 45 tribes.

Webster heard about the academy from Dr. Paul Campbell, a New Mexico physician who is married to Kara Bobroff, principal of the academy. Webster and Campbell were roommates at Dickinson; both graduated in 1988.
