Trash on the Plaza
march 23, 2007

As part of Dickinson's participation in the nationwide RecycleMania contest, students and other members of the campus community promoted recycling through an examination of 24 hours' worth of HUB trash. Special guest appearances by President Durden and the Green Devil made the experience fun for all who participated.

The trash pickers recovered 88 pounds of recyclables from 312 pounds of trash, which means 28 percent of the materials could have (should have) been recycled. That’s down from 47 percent last year, according to Rebecca (Becki) Walker '06, the sustainability specialist with the facilities management department.

“Maybe all of the hard work of the sustainability interns and sustainability department is paying off,” Walker said.
