Judge Jones Featured on PBS

Judge Jones
Judge John E. Jones '77 appeared on the PBS program NOVA about a landmark trial on the teaching of evolution. The program was broadcast Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Jones, a federal judge for the middle district of Pennsylvania, struck down efforts by the Dover Area school board to teach intelligent design in science class as an alternative to evolution. The December 2005 decision followed a six-week trial in Harrisburg that attracted international media attention.

Jones was named to the 2006 Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world. He received an honorary doctor of law and public service degree and gave the address at Dickinson's Commencement in 2006, and he was named among the 25 most influential Dickinsonians in the fall 2007 issue of Dickinson Magazine.

The NOVA broadcast, "Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial," features trial re-enactments based on court transcripts and interviews with key participants, including expert scientists, parents, teachers, town officials and Judge Jones.
