Environmental Open House
December 1, 2007

Residents of Tome Hall and members of Dickinson's environmental studies department and other concerned programs joined forces to host a variety of hands-on activities, presentations and demonstrations related to energy, resources and global warming at this environmental open house.

Activities included demonstrations on photovoltaic energy, the differences between incandescent and compact florescent lighting, “phantom energy” used by appliances that are turned off but plugged in, an IMAX film showing of The Blue Planet in the planetarium, a tour of the Center for Sustainable Living, a station that utilizes a carbon footprint calculator, a “Jeopardy Planet” interactive game, a tour of the college’s biodiesel plant and presentations on solar and wind energy and the oil and freshwater situations.
