Ready, Set, Rotary!

Michael Snyder '03

Holy Haggis! Dickinson College alumnus Michael Snyder '03 has recently been selected as a Rotary International Scholar, where he will receive a $26,000 scholarship for two years to complete a Master's degree abroad. A geology and environmental science major at Dickinson, Snyder plans to study sustainable development at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

Having spent the spring of his junior year studying at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, Snyder is familiar with the abroad experience and is excited to deepen his already global perspective through his time in the United Kingdom.

Snyder credits his Dickinson experience with guiding him to further his education overseas: “I think that my Dickinson education helped guide me to this stage of my life by instilling in me a trust for my own ideas, my inner teacher, and igniting in me a passion to follow them.”

Rotary International is a global network of community volunteers that works to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs. The purpose of the Rotary scholarship is to further international goodwill and support peaceful solutions to international issues such as poverty, environmental concerns, and health care. Since 1947, nearly 37,000 men and women from 100 nations have studied abroad through its programs, making it the world's largest privately funded international scholarships program. As a graduate student at the University of Edinburgh , Snyder will represent the Rotary region serving Pennsylvania , Maryland , Virginia and West Virginia .
