Jennifer L. Holm '90 has published the first books in a new graphic novel series for young girls and will release her latest novel for young readers later this year.
The Babymouse series, targeted to girls 7-10, was created by Holm with her brother, graphic designer Matthew Holm. The first two titles, BABYMOUSE: Queen of the World! and BABYMOUSE: Our Hero were published in December. A review in the Chicago Sun-Times noted that "this strong, appealing female character will win readers of both genders."
Penny From Heaven, scheduled to be published in July 2006, is a young reader novel about an 11-year-old girl growing up in an Italian-American family in the 1950s. Holm will be going on a 10-city tour to promote the book this summer.
Holm is also the author of the Boston Jane series of children's novels. Her first book,
Our Only May Amelia, was published in June 1999, and received wide acclaim for its portrayal of a 12-year old growing up in frontier Washington in 1899. It was recognized by the American Library Association in 2000 as a Newbery Honor Book.
