The provocative contemporary Greek tragedy "The Love of the Nightingale" was presented by Dickinson's Mermaid Players October 31 to November 4 in the HUB's Mathers Theatre.
Playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker created "The Love of the Nightingale" based on "Tereus," Sophocles' lost play. The tragedy is an adaptation of the Philomele myth, in which sisters wreak violent revenge after one of them is abused and silenced in a brutal fashion.
The Mermaid Players used 7 tons of sand on the stage to create the illusion of a beach.
