National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week October 2, 2003 |
Dickinson's Department of Public Safety recently received a grant from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board to help curtail underage drinking. The grant helps fund enforcement efforts as well as educational programming on the consequences of alcohol consumption.
As part of Alcohol Awareness Week, DPS set up an information table in the HUB during lunch time on Thursday. In addition to passing out literature and answering students' questions, officers demonstrated the effects of alcohol on motor skills with a pair of goggles that blurred the wearer's vision.
Students may have noticed an increased presence of police officers on bikes patrolling campus during the weekends. DPS will continue these and other appropriate enforcement activities to ensure a safe environment for all students. They will also work with Student Life staff on education programs. These efforts are designed to raise awareness of the alcohol laws, deter illegal and unsafe drinking behavior, develop better community relationships, and provide alternatives to alcohol focused social events.
