DNA Anniversary Open House
Tuesday, April 29, 2003

The biology and biochemistry programs helped the "Writing Science News" class celebrate a crucial event in the history of biology at an open house Tuesday in the Quarry. The event marked the 50th anniversary of Watson and Crick's announcement of the structure of DNA in the April 25, 1953 issue of the journal Nature.

The open house included refreshments, dramatic entertainment, and a demonstration by the "Writing Science News" class of how the momentous 1953 event should have been covered by the press. The musical theme was the 50s and the gene, double helix and "twist" themes were much in evidence with pretzels, A-T-C-G cookies, spiral balloons and Slinky prizes.
