MacPhail Baseball Field Dedication April 4, 2003 |
The new home of Red Devils baseball was dedicated on Friday afternoon, April 4th. The MacPhail Baseball Field was made possible in part by gifts from Dickinson alumni Allen MacPhail '67, Andrew MacPhail '76, and Bruce MacPhail '73.
The MacPhail family has been involved in the sport of baseball for four generations. Allen's son Bryan MacPhail is a current member of the Dickinson baseball team. Andy and Allen both played for the Red Devils, and Andy is currently president and CEO of the Chicago Cubs. Their father Lee MacPhail was general manager of the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees. He served as president of the American League for many years and is a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Lee's father Larry MacPhail, an executive with the Reds, Dodgers, and Yankees, is also a member of the Hall of Fame.
Two other gifts were recognized at Friday's ceremony. The visitors' dugout was donated by Larry Snyder '65 and Anne Selden '65. Ann Kramer Hoffer donated the home dugout to honor her grandfather, William Alfred Kramer, class of 1883.
