Alumni In the News - August 6, 2002 Christine K. Murphy '97 is a senior production associate for ABC News Prime Time |
She recently wrote to let us know about a documentary she was involved with which will premiere on Wednesday, August 7th.
For the past 15 months, I have been working on a 4 part documentary called "ICU-ARKANSAS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL." It is premiering Wednesday, August 7th on ABC at 10:00 pm eastern (9:00 pm central). It will run every Wednesday in August (7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th).
My colleague, Ani Mozian and I followed an extraordinary team of doctors and nurses who make up one of the country's leading pediatric cardiac intensive care units. The series chronicles the staff's personal and professional struggles, while also focusing on the powerful, emotional stories of several young patients who come into the ICU.
This has been a labor of love for me. In the last 15 months, I have learned more about myself and matured professionally more than I could have ever imagined. Working in a pediatric ICU facility will wake you up if not shake you to the core. Over the months, I have touched a human heart beating inside a 3 year old toddler, wept with families who have lost their children, made life lasting friendships, and celebrated the triumphant journeys of those patients who survive.
Hopefully this series will touch you if not inform you of the need for pediatric research. Most importantly, I hope it will make you look at the back of your driver's license and think about being an organ donor.
