Jim Gerlach Elected to Congress

Bush and Gerlach Jim Gerlach '77, a two-term state senator, won his race for the seat in Pennsylvania's 6th Congressional District. He narrowly defeated Dan Wofford 51% to 49%.

During the campaign, President Bush spoke at a campaign rally in Downingtown in support of Gerlach's candidacy (photo right).

Jim Gerlach was born and raised in Ellwood City, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Dickinson in 1977 with a degree in political science, he went on to the Dickinson School of Law. He served two terms in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 155th District, and two terms in the Pennsylvania State Senate.

Because George Gekas '52 lost his race for re-election, the number of Dickinson alumni in the 108th Congress will remain at three: Gerlach, James Greenwood '73 (Pennsylvania's 8th District), and Bill Shuster '83 (Pennsylvania's 9th District).
