DEP Secretary David E. Hess presented the Shermans Creek Conservation Association (SCCA) and the Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring (ALLARM) with a $32,108 Growing Greener grant. This grant will be used to expand the water-quality monitoring program to supply additional data and to provide a portrait of the watershed. SCCA will develop an educational program to increase awareness and understanding of the watershed and as a resource for decision-making by local government.
"We're pleased to have Secretary Hess and Rep. Egolf with us today as we begin our training to expand our volunteers' monitoring skills," said Linda Sieber, SCCA chairwoman. ALLARM, a project of Dickinson's Environmental Studies Department and a partner with the SCCA, presented the training to help volunteer monitors identify aquatic insects and other invertebrates.
