Dickinson defeats Wheaton College 81-71 to advance to the "Elite Eight."

Dickinson beat Wheaton College 81-71 to advance to the "Elite Eight" in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament. The victory continues the Red Devils' record-breaking season, bringing them to 24 wins and within one game of the tournament's Final Four.

After getting off to a slow start and trailing 17-10 halfway through the first half, Dickinson surged back, allowing only eight points for the rest of the half and establishing a 32-25 halftime lead. They kept control in the second half, never giving up the lead and holding Wheaton to 33.9 percent from the field while shooting almost 50 percent themselves.

Gerry Wixted '15 led the Red Devils with 22 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. Adam Honig chipped in 17 points, and Ted Hinnenkamp '16 added 10 points on the night.

"We talked at halftime about enjoying the moment and making sure you smile a couple of times out there. Gerry excels when he is comfortable," said Men's Basketball Head Coach Alan Seretti on Wixted's play. Wixted did just that, leading the Devils into uncharted territory with a solid team behind him.

The win earns Dickinson its first trip to the "Elite Eight" in college history. The Red Devils will play Illinois Wesleyan University at 7 p.m. (8 p.m. EST) Saturday.
