A New Era in Sports Coverage

Alumni, parents and other Red Devil fans can expect to see more updates, highlights and multimedia coverage of Dickinson athletics thanks to the appointment of the new coordinator of athletic multimedia & marketing, Christian Payne.

"For many years we've only had one person operating in sports information, which has been a little difficult and has kept us a little behind our peer institutions, considering we are offering 23 sports," says Director of Athletics Les Poolman. "Now we'll be able to share more with the wider Dickinson community about all of our teams. It's a new era."

In his new role, Payne, a 2012 Denison University grad from Salisbury, Md., will manage multimedia services for athletics through digital avenues such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. "I'll be implementing interactive, informative and fun content that will enhance the Dickinson athletics experience," he says. He's also launching and directing a shiny new feature in athletics: the official Red Devils Sports Network, Dickinson's student-driven sports broadcasting network.

Through the network, athletics will provide active coverage through live broadcasts and implement highlight/feature segments to, as Payne says, "cultivate Dickinson athletics awareness, spirit and support."

"Ultimately," he says, "my goal is to provide useful athletic multimedia that connects Dickinson student-athletes, coaches and administrators and also engages our entire student body and dynamic alumni network."

"Parents, friends and alumni want to have immediate updates regarding sports contests and also want to follow online wherever they are located," Poolman says, noting that Payne's position will go a long way toward addressing these needs. "It will be particularly satisfying to hear positive feedback on a consistent basis from these constituencies."
