Student Snapshot: Chris Brandau '23

Chris Brandau '23

As a transfer student to Dickinson, Chris Brandau ’23 got involved right away, beginning with fellow members of the Red Devils varsity lacrosse team, who made him feel right at home—while also challenging him to perform at his best—from the start. On the field, he’s earned top ranks as team captain and a first-team, All-Centennial Conference, All-American goalie. He’s also succeeded in two internships at Morgan Stanley, in New York City. Brandau has already accepted a job offer to work at Morgan Stanley after graduation.

Favorite movie/show/podcast:

Spittin’ Chiclets.

Best thing about my Dickinson experience so far:

Coming in as a transfer student in the fall of 2022, I was brought in and accepted by my teammates and community immediately. Dickinson welcomed me in with open arms and quickly provided me with a home away from home.

Favorite place on campus:

Biddle Field.

On choosing Dickinson:

As I began the transfer process, our head lacrosse coach, David Webster ’88, made me feel valued as a person, rather than just a player. After I toured the campus with Coach Webster and connected with members of the program, I knew that the culture and community that Dickinson fosters encourages each member of the college to be a better person while cultivating an environment that allows all of us to grow as a person, student and athlete and to become the best version of ourselves.

As I kid, I wanted to be …

… Buzz Lightyear.

Post-Dickinson plans:

I have accepted a job offer with Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Equity Sales & Trading Division to work within the Prime Brokerage sales team in New York.

If I could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, it would be …

My entire family, with a bushel of steamed crabs.

Proudest accomplishment so far:

Winning a Centennial Conference Championship in 2022.

About my internship:

I’ve interned at Morgan Stanley, within the Institutional Equity Sales & Trading Division during the past two summers in New York. Throughout my internship I spent time working with the Prime Brokerage Sales/Consulting/Capital Introductions/Financing/Risk desks, as well as the U.S. & International Sales desks. Working on a trading floor is incredibly exciting and energizing, and I was able to utilize market data to work with a variety of Morgan Stanley clients with custody and clearing of equity products. I was able to gain a full understanding of how Morgan Stanley deals with hedge fund clients and am incredibly excited to begin my position as an analyst with the Prime Brokerage Sales team upon graduation.

Most important thing I’ve learned so far:

Prioritizing mental health and self-care is of the utmost importance—it is always OK to not be OK, and your support system is always bigger than you think.
