Student Snapshot: Selene Nguyen '25

Selene Nguyen '25

Selene Nguyen ’25 (international business & management, data analytics) wanted to attend a college with a global mindset and a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. She found that college home at Dickinson, where she enjoys learning about marketing, exploring her culture through the Vietnamese Student Association and expressing her creativity through MOB, a student organization that brings professional performers to campus. Below, Nguyen discusses her favorite class and professor, her favorite book and author, and more.

Hometown:

Hanoi, Vietnam.

Majors:

International business & management and data analytics, with minors in mathematics and economics.

Clubs and organizations:

MOB (weekend events chair), Marketing Club (project manager), Student Investment Group, Vietnamese Students Association, Women in Economics and Asian-Asian American Collective.

Change A Life, Change the WorldHonors/scholarships/awards:

Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society and the 1783 Scholarship.

Favorite book:

Principles by Ray Dalio.

Favorite place on campus:

Tome Hall.

Best thing about my Dickinson experience:

MOB and the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA). Thanks to MOB and VSA, I have been able to find a home at Dickinson. MOB is like a family home, where I can freely explore my creativity and ability, and the VSA gives me the opportunity to enjoy the familiarity of my culture right on Dickinson’s campus.

Best thing about my major:

The international business & management and data analytics professors are incredibly friendly and supportive, and it goes beyond the classes. I still ask my professors from classes I took in the past for career advice, and they are always eager to help.

On choosing Dickinson:

As an international student, I preferred an inclusive campus, where international students have the full potential to grow and connect. That's why I decided Dickinson would be my second home.

Post-Dickinson plans:

I’m planning to apply for jobs in marketing analytics.

As I kid, I wanted to be …

… a successful businesswoman.

Favorite class so far:

Marketing, aka INBM 240. I love marketing—it is my career path—and I find the approach of this course to be highly realistic and applicable to real life. Assistant Professor of International Business & Management Xiaolu Wang also gave us a highly interesting learning experience. I recommend this course to any aspiring international business & management majors.

Favorite professor so far:

Professor of International Business & Management Dengjian Jin. His teaching style is always engaging, and he always has the passion and energy that would inspire any student!

Little-known hobby/talent:

I can play a little bit of piano. I am planning to improve my piano skills at Dickinson.

If I could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, it would be …

… Seth Godin. I am a big fan of his books, and it would be amazing if I could have a discussion with him and learn from him in person.
