Just in time for fall, Dickinson College Farm Works is back and better than ever. Beginning Monday, Aug. 29, Farm Works will be once again open to the public at 169 W. High Street, just steps from Denny Hall. Hours are from Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ramping up the excitement, Farm Works will host a special reopening celebration during Homecoming & Family Weekend on Friday, Sept. 23, beginning at 3 p.m. All Dickinsonians and their families are welcome to attend.

Launched last year on a trial basis, Farm Works brings wholesome goods from Dickinson’s organic College Farm, six miles from campus, straight into downtown Carlisle. While it closed down during the summer months, College Farm students and staff analyzed what worked well and what could be improved in advance of the formal opening this fall.

Farm Works continues to offer daily soup specials, weekly specialty-salad and green-salad specials, specialty drinks and fresh bread. New this fall, you’ll find a small, refrigerated case stocked with College Farm organic produce and small-batch treats like salsa, dips and dressings. Also launching will be an assortment of herbal remedies, including lip balm, extracts and salves.

This year, a variety of salad dressings are available for the salads, and the bread is scratch-made by College Farm staff. Also new: a half-soup, half-salad meal option. Best yet, Farm Works now accepts both the Any 20 and Flex meal plans (two swipes per item for Any 20 and six points for Flex). Food items purchased with meal points will include a specialty drink and bread for students.

“I’m excited to see students and members of the Carlisle community become more involved with sustainable food production in a local way,” says Ellie Parker ’24 (international business & management), one of several student-interns who manage the store, as the farm’s new part-time kitchen manager, Anthony Baker, creates the delicious, seasonal and creative ready-to-eat dishes. “It is really rewarding to know where your food comes from, and Farm Works allows students to embody a true farm-to-table initiative.”
