Student Snapshot: Annie Le ’22
Coming to Dickinson from Hanoi, Vietnam, Annie Le ’22 found a family away from home through Dickinson’s Friendship Family Program for international students and others coming to campus from more than 500 miles away. She discusses that experience, what she loves about being a quantitative economics major and more.

John Montgomery Scholarship.
Favorite book:
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han. This was an old book that drove me crazy when I was in middle school.
Favorite movie:
The Big Short.
Best thing about my major:
QECON is a combination of economics and mathematics. It helps you understand economics not only through theoretical models but also through empirical data. That allows you to think of economics as a practical tool to apply to real-life problems.
Favorite class/learning experience:
Introduction to Python. This was my first computer-science class, and it allowed me to learn a new skill—coding. I feel like coding makes me look so cool; my mom even thought I could start to be a hacker (of course, I’m not)!
Favorite place on campus:
Althouse.
Favorite Dining Hall food:
Sweet potato fries.
Favorite professor (and why):
Hmm ... I love all professors who have taught me, seriously! I want to thank Professors Marshall, Erfle, Tynan, Hawks, Braught, McKay, Zhang, Middaugh and Katunich for the lectures and learning experiences—even though they were challenging—that helped me find who I am at Dickinson. I was impressed by the openness to questions and helpfulness of all Dickinson faculty when I started my first semester here. Special thanks to Professor Marshall for inspiring me to study economics and become a QR tutor!

Being accepted to Dickinson.
