Amanda Turner

Job title: nutrition center assistant
Job Responsibilities
I will be working at a children's nutrition center in the La Victoria, Dominican Republic. My everyday responsibilities include feeding children who are too young or weak to feed themselves, giving the children baths, dressing cuts and infections (it takes longer for cuts and wounds to heal when a person is severely malnourished), and making sure they play nicely. I will also be doing basic tasks like washing the dishes after meals, whatever the sisters ask of me.
How has Dickinson prepared you for your future?
I have grown a lot as a person from my experiences at Dickinson. Being in an environment with people that have very different opinions and values from me, I have learned a lot about who I am and what I believe, while accepting and loving others for who they are. I have also learned, being in such a privileged environment, a lot about the real world and its brokenness and the weird distances we create between ourselves and others. Ultimately Dickinson has left me with a burning call to go and start making things better any way I can, to acknowledge how lucky I have been in my life, and try and share my portion. I plan to give my life away. This means not only sharing, but being willing to learn. I have realized through all this learning that I really know so little, that we all really know so little, and that is beautiful and humbling.
Internship Experience
I was an intern with the Dickinson College master gardener. I also interned at a battered women's shelter in Argentina when I was abroad.
What are you most anticipating about your future?
Directly serving others, and learning from those most forgotten. It's time someone listened to what they have to say.
What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?
- My freshman play.
- Rooming with Leah and Mango.
- Getting through finals week every semester.
- Sleeping in the library.
- Many moments in the Natural History Mosaic.
- Finishing my thesis.

Katelyn Eby

Job Responsibilities
I will be joining the demand generation marketing team in Bellevue, Washington, to aid in the creation of integrated marketing campaigns promoting both the Smartsheet software and the thought leadership surrounding the company. My main responsibility will be the creation of top of the marketing funnel content revolving around the new verticals the company is engaging with, and the assets that support each respective vertical.
How has Dickinson prepared you for your future?
Dickinson has provided me with four years dedicated to critical thinking and intellectual growth through a comprehensive undergraduate career that allowed me to grow not only in my field of study, but as a contributive community member as well. This skill set would not have been accrued had I not attended such a forward thinking and intellectually challenging school.
Internship Experience
In summer 2017, I interned for SAP Concur as a content marketing intern, which matched my love for writing to the targeted approaches behind marketing and solidified my interest in working for a tech company.
What are you most anticipating about your career or post-graduate pursuits?
I am extremely excited to take what I learned through my undergraduate career at Dickinson and apply it to my coming work experience and to continue to explore a new city.
What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?
My English senior seminar with Prof. Sarah Kersh, studying abroad in Bologna, Italy and meeting some of my best friends throughout the last four years.

Solera Capital is a women run private equity firm. I am excited to work alongside such influential and powerful women in a field where female representation and leadership is still slim.

Going abroad at Univeristy of East Anglia in Norwich England. My senior English seminar with Prof. Carol Ann Johnston. Dancing on Synergy dance team.

Create outreach programs in Washington, D.C. with the deputy commandant, provide support for publications, establish and maintain the school's social media presence.
How has Dickinson prepared you for your future?
The breadth and depth of a liberal arts degree has allowed me to experience so many different fields. Nowhere else would an English degree be prepared to work in defense strategy. I am graduating having written a 50-page thesis—something that makes me interesting and attractive to employers.
What are you most anticipating about your career or post-graduate pursuits?
Independence and the ability to apply my knowledge acquired at Dickinson to the real world.

My semester abroad in Bologna, Italy and finishing my 50-page thesis.

I will teach humanities classes, coach soccer/lacrosse, and be a supervisor in the dorm rooms in Culver, Indiana.
How has Dickinson prepared you for your future?
By pursuing a liberal-arts education, I have an intersectional and holistic understanding of social, political and academic life. Because of this, I was able to appropriately explain how the humanities is an intersectional field rather than a compartmentalization of English, history, religion, etc.

Margaret McGuirk

Job title: education and outreach coordinator
Job Responsibilities
I will be coordinating campus outreach between Dickinson's College Farm in Boiling Springs, Pennsylvania, and the Dickinson community, including events on the farm, food-related outings, the HUB farm stand, Pizza on the Plaza and more. I also will be coordinating the farm's educational outreach programs with local elementary schools.
How has Dickinson prepared you for your future?
Dickinson prepared me for my future by teaching me to ask questions and giving me the tools to pursue my passions. The liberal-arts education at Dickinson helped me find my interest in a wide variety of subjects, from studio art to marine biology. The small classes helped me build relationships with my professors, who pushed me to think differently and constantly challenge my existing beliefs. My major has given me a solid foundation of inquiry and communication skills to drive my future pursuits in and outside of the classroom. The wide variety of extracurricular opportunities at Dickinson helped me find my interest in service, especially training service dogs. The opportunity to hold leadership positions across campus gave me some of my most valuable experiences balancing projects and effectively leading teams of my peers.
Internship Experience
I was a marketing intern for the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Maryland. I worked with the community outreach team to coordinate aquarium booths at Artscape Baltimore and the Baltimore Farmers Market. I also helped organized local access programs like the Read to Reef Book Club and Grade A Student Night that provide free tickets to local children and their families.
What are you most anticipating about your career or post-graduate pursuits?
I am excited to engage with the Dickinson community in a new way: as a staff member, instead of a student. I am looking forward to immersing myself in the Carlisle community and developing unique and engaging programming for Dickinson students.
What are some of the defining moments of your Dickinson experience?
My year abroad at the University of Oxford was a defining moment in my Dickinson experience. In the classroom, my year abroad pushed me to dive deeper into my field of English literature and approach literature in ways I had never considered before. Living in a city so steeped in academic culture and history helped me learn just as much about diverse cultures as my academic pursuits. I also gained some lifelong friendships on both sides of the pond, while building my own independence and confidence. My participation in the Dickinson College Dog House also shaped my Dickinson experience. While living in the house and acting as director in my sophomore year, I learned important leadership and cooperative skills. I also discovered a love for training service dogs that I plan to continue into my life outside of Dickinson.
