News Outlets highlight Dickinson College in more than 570 stories in February 2018
Dickinson College appeared in 571 news stories in outlets ranging from CNN to the Christian Science Monitor last month (Jan. 16 to Feb. 28). Highlights include:
- In a Philadelphia Inquirer op-ed, President Margee Ensign discussed the need for American students to become better informed about the wider world to "ensure our citizens have the knowledge they need to participate in a democracy."
- Visiting International Scholar in International Studies Jacob Jacob discussed how students pushing for gun control echo other historic activist movements in the Associated Press article, "After Years of Dejection, Proponents of Gun Laws See Hope." He also told the Christian Science Monitor why everything is in place for a mass movement in the story, “After Parkland, a new generation finds its voice.”
- The college's announcement of the Commencement speaker and honorary degree recipients was picked up by the following: San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle, seattlePl.com, PRWeb, Benzinga, Biz Wire, SGB Media, Times Union, The Advocate and 25 television stations.
- Assistant Professor of Political Science Katie Marchetti discussed the youth gun control movement and its advantage over the NRA in the CNN story, “Four Reasons the NRA Should Fear the Parkland Survivors.”
- Student athletes Lizzie Becker '20 and Helen Roberts '17 appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show to demonstrate their unique marshmallow-tossing talent.
- Assistant Professor of Political Science David O'Connell gave two interviews to FOX43 about redistricting and gerrymandering in Pennsylvania. He also was a live guest on WITF on President’s Day discussing the legacy and popularity of U.S. presidents.
- The February cover story of NACUBO’s Business Officer Magazine highlighted Dickinson’s work with the Greater Carlisle Project and its implication of the City Resilience Index. Neil Leary, director of the Center for Sustainability Education, was interviewed.
- In an essay published in Rare.org’s newsletter, Lindsey Lyons, assistant director in the Center for Sustainability Education, wrote how behavior change has been implemented in sustainability education and initiatives since Brett Jenks’ campus residency.
- Professor of Religion Andrea Lieber’s essay, “Experiential Education: An Approach. Not a Place,” was published in Jewish Philanthropy.
