How I got this internship:
I got this internship by responding to a listing on a company website or search engine.
What I do, day to day:
I organize logistics for an annual weeklong event put on by CDF, work on promotional releases for the event and draft social media to promote it.
Other internships:
I will be interning next semester as a communications intern at the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.
Most valuable part of this experience:
Learning the day-to-day functioning of a nonprofit has been most valuable to me in this experience.
Advice for students considering internships:
Apply for the position you think you're most qualified for, not necessarily the one you want the most. Once you're in an organization, you can make connections with people in different departments that may help you get a foot in the door. Getting into the building is the hard part, so once you're in, it's easier to make lateral movements.
Post-Dickinson plans:
I hope to live in D.C. for the first few years after graduation and hopefully work in nonprofits or government.
