Rescuing the Children

A leading scholar of the Holocaust, Paul Bartrop, will present Dickinson’s 2017 Pincus Lecture, “Rescuing the Children: Three Remarkable Jewish Women in Vichy France During the Holocaust,” on Thursday, April 20, at 7 p.m. in Althouse Hall, Room 106.

Bartrop is professor of history and director of the Center for Judaic, Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Fla. His current research examines the rescue of Jews from Vichy France, a puppet state established by Nazi Germany in southern France from 1940 to 1944. He is also working on a four-volume encyclopedia of the Holocaust.

Bartrop is author of more than a dozen books on the Holocaust and genocide and has published numerous scholarly articles in books and journals. He has been a member of the International Association of Genocide Scholars and was for many years the Australian representative on the International Committee of the Annual Scholars’ Conference on the Holocaust and the Churches. He is a past member of the editorial advisory board of the international journal Genocide Studies and Prevention; a member of the editorial advisory board of the journal Holocaust and Genocide Studies; a member of the advisory board of the Genocide Education Project, California; and senior consultant of the Jewish Holocaust Centre, Melbourne. Bartrop is currently vice president of the Midwest Jewish Studies Association and is a past president of the Australian Association of Jewish Studies.
