Finding a 'Golden Ticket'

How I got this internship:

Through a referral.

What I do, day to day:

I communicate with AbbVie affiliates around the world (Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa and Colombia) to streamline our clinical trial imports/exports. I am responsible for developing customs broker process flow and import profiles; in other words, I make sure that AbbVie and all of our third-party trade partners are on the same page and know how to clear our products through customs. I have also had the privilege to travel with my manager to Sydney, Australia, to present on behalf of the company to our customs broker team for Australia and New Zealand.

Previous internships:

This is my first professional internship, and I could not have asked for a more incredible opportunity. I feel like I got "the golden ticket."

Most valuable part of this experience:

This internship has given me amazing insight into corporate America and the pharmaceutical industry. I've gotten to see all the different corporate functions (finance, R&D, shipping, distribution) and how they all come together to make sure that these life-changing products get into the hands of patients.

Advice for students considering internships:

Be proactive, don't make any assumptions and never shy away from asking questions!

How this internship has helped me:

My internship experience has been invaluable in my growth as a student. It has not only strengthened my communication skills but also taught me how to ask better questions.

Post-Dickinson plans:

Nothing is set in stone, but I would love to get my M.B.A., dive into the pharmaceutical industry and continue to make a real impact on patients’ lives.
