Major:
Internship title:
Membership intern.
How I got this internship:
I applied to the program back in January and, after an interview, I received the position.
What I do, day to day:
I work on a lot of social media initiatives and plan for a big fundraiser. When I am not contacting potential entertainers, sponsors or partners, I'm developing strategies and content for the Young Friends (special members group) platform. When I want a break, I just walk around the galleries and take pictures of things that I think would be fun to post on Instagram.
Previous internships:
I've had multiple internships—one was at the Michener Museum of Art in the Education Department; I just finished another internship at The Trout Gallery.
Most valuable part of this experience:
Every Monday and Thursday afternoon, all the interns come together to hear from people in different departments around the museum. Even though I am working in Membership, I have met and talked to staff from all over. This really allows me to understand the interactive nature of a large museum, and it gives me insight on jobs I may or may not be interested in. I have appreciated the networks I have made from this aspect of the program.
Advice for students considering internships:
Do them. They are really great opportunities to learn professional skills and make connections.
How this internship helped me:
I am more confident in what I want to do after Dickinson and what my ultimate career goals will be.
Post-Dickinson plans:
I plan to go to grad school and eventual get my Ph.D. in African art.
