Summer sports camps keep kids active on campus

For kids looking for something fun to do this summer (solidly, right through August), there’s no need to look any further than Dickinson’s campus, as the annual flurry of sports camps is underway.

Although the boys’ basketball and soccer camps have already had a run, another boys’ basketball camp is still on the horizon in August. Between then and now, boys’ overnight lacrosse camp and girls’ field hockey camps are still available this month, and July features girls’ soccer, basketball and lacrosse camps.

“It’s fun and refreshing to work with young players who are just learning the game but who aspire to play in college,” says Dave Webster, Red Devil men’s lacrosse head coach. “It’s rewarding to watch them grasp new concepts and try new techniques and to learn and improve.”

July ends with a volleyball camp open to all, and it’s something Head Women's Volleyball Coach Andrew Pile says will bring some excitement to the sport.

“I really just wanted to help give both boys and girls the opportunity around the Carlisle area to get involved in volleyball,” says Pile, who recently finished his first year with the Red Devil women’s squad. “I got my start in coaching from working youth volleyball camps through college, and I've always enjoyed introducing this great game to so many kids and showing them how much fun it can be.”

Summer sports camps conclude in August with Lil’ Devils Camp and another boys’ basketball camp. Beyond the sports camps, there’s no shortage of youth-oriented activities, as the Center for Talented Youth program and the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet camp keep campus humming.
