One-night exhibition showcases student sculpture, ceramics

by MaryAlice Bitts-Jackson

A one-night-only exhibition will pop up on campus Monday, Dec. 7, as nine students in advanced studio-art classes present their latest 3-D works. Held 5-7 p.m. in the Stern Center Great Room, the show is one of a handful of student-organized arts events slated for this academic year.

The artists—Joelle Cicak '16, Lucas Kang ’16, Rachel Rectenwald ’17, Stephan Sieg '16 and Lizzie Wilford '16 (all art & art history majors); Wes Gottesman ’16 (economics); Ben Klauer ’16 (international business & management); Cynthia Maggidis ’16 (art & art history, archaeology); and Yuan “Wendy” Lin ’16 (art & art history, theatre arts)—are enrolled in advanced sculpture and/or advanced ceramics courses this semester. Throughout the exhibition, they will be on hand to talk about the artworks that came out of those classes.

“A lot of us have made some really cool work this semester, so it’s bound to be a great show,” said Wilford, who is spearheading publicity for the event. “It’ll definitely be worth checking out.”

The exhibition taps into an international trend, as pop-up events and businesses crop up in major cities and beyond (Dickinson hosted a pop-up restaurant this year to great success). Many of the artists also recently premiered artworks during the 2015 senior-studio art preview exhibition, a precursor to the end-of-year senior show.
