'Money' magazine ranks Carlisle, Pa., in its top five places for walking and biking

Carlisle, Pa. has been named one of the top five places in the U.S. for walking and biking by Money magazine, which cited Carlisle’s location in the Cumberland Valley as “the perfect backdrop for cyclists, runners and nature lovers of all types.”

Money, a division of Time, Inc., considered nearly 2,000 towns and based its top five on the percentage of residents who walk or bike to work. In Carlisle, that percentage is more than 18 percent, far surpassing the national average of 1 to 3 percent.

This new recognition also reflects the value the Dickinson community places on sustainability. The college recently received a silver designation from the League of American Bicyclists as a Bicycle Friendly University. In August, Dickinson was named of the greenest colleges in America by Sierra magazine in their annual “Cool Schools” list and was one of only 24 schools to be placed on The Princeton Review’s Green Honor Roll.

The Carlisle region also has been named one of the country's best places to raise a family by Forbes magazine and voted one of America’s “most livable cities.”
