Major:

Music (vocal performance).

Clubs and organizations:

Hillel, Music Society, Equestrian Team, College Choir and Collegium.

Honors/scholarships/awards:

Semi-finalist in National Associate of Teachers (NATS) Voice Competition (2013 and 2014).

On choosing a major:

I knew by my senior year of high school that voice was my passion. I declared music as my major by the second semester of my freshman year.

Post-Dickinson plans:

I plan to attend graduate school in the U.S. or in Europe. I want to become a professional opera singer.

On choosing Dickinson:

Dickinson’s learning environment and community has a very similar feel to my high school. I really benefit from small, discussion-based courses. I also wanted to begin my classical training with [Associate] Professor [of Music] Lynn Helding, who is the head of the voice department at Dickinson.

Favorite class:

German Opera and Society, a seminar taught by [Associate] Professor [of Music] Amy Wlodarski in fall 2013. This seminar challenged me and showed me that I was capable of more than I thought. It really expanded my mind. I also loved the small and intimate environment. It was a class that included my closest friends, peers and colleagues.

On studying abroad:

I studied abroad in Bologna, Italy. The highlight of my experience was joining two Italian choirs at the University of Bologna and receiving an internship at the Bologna International Museum and Library of Music. All of these activities aided my Italian skills.

Proudest accomplishment:

I lived in Europe for six months last year. The first four months abroad was [with the] Dickinson program [in Bologna]. I spent the final two months traveling and studying through an opera program in Rome. This experience taught me that I can flourish anywhere.

Favorite professor:

It’s a tie between Professor Amy Wlodarski and Professor Lynn Helding. Both of these women have inspired me to follow my dreams, intellectually and artistically, throughout my Dickinson career. They both possess strength, success, drive and wisdom.

Favorite book:

The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison.

Favorite place on campus:

The field between Weiss and the president’s house.

Little-known skill:

I am very good at learning languages. I speak Hebrew fluently, and I am nearly fluent in Italian.

If I could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, it would be …

Cecilia Bartoli, my favorite opera singer.
