When did you begin volunteering for Dickinson?
I began volunteering on behalf of the College while I was still a student—serving on All-College Committees and putting in time on the Phonathon. Continuing my volunteer activities as an alumna was only natural.

What prompted you to want to get more involved with Dickinson?
Simple. I love the College and loved my four years there. And I want other students to have all the amazing opportunities I did—and more.

List the volunteer opportunities you participate in:
As a new alumna, I took on the role of coordinating our class notes in the Dickinson Magazine and continued keeping our classmates in touch with one another that way for twenty years. I have served on reunion committees for the Class of 1992, returned to campus to speak to student groups, attended prospective student receptions, and been involved with regional fundraising activities.

What do you enjoy most about your volunteer experience?
Knowing that I’m giving back to the faculty, staff, and institution that gave me so much and from whom I learned so much. And having a way to stay in touch with the old friends and cherished memories I made at Dickinson.

A fun Dickinson fact about yourself:
I played a role in starting the Common Hour and in founding what was then called The Lumberyard (what later became The Depot).

What advice do you have for someone thinking about volunteering?
Do it! There are many ways to be involved that will fit your available time and comfort zones. And every bit of service makes a valuable contribution.

Why do you choose to give to Dickinson (financially)?
My family was poor and I was the first in my family to attend college. The financial assistance I received from the College truly made my higher education possible. I’m motivated to give financially because I want to make sure other kids from similar backgrounds find the same opportunities I did, if not better.
