Poets from Uruguay, Brazil, Spain and the U.S. attend Semana Poética.

Standing: Jesús Aguado and Guillermo Rebollo-Gil.The fifth annual Semana Poética (Poetry Week) kicked off Monday, Oct. 23 with poetry readings by Astrid Cabral Feliz de Sousa, one of the most important contemporary poets in Brazil and in the Portuguese language, and by Spanish poet Jesús Aguado, who has published several collections of his work.
The celebration will continue Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in the Great Room of the Stern Center with readings by Uruguayan poet Cristina O. Rodríguez-Cabral and Spanish poet José Ángel Cilleruelo. On Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m., there will be an informal poetry reading and discussion at La Luz Gallery & Café, 31 N. Hanover St., with Guillermo Rebollo-Gil, Puerto Rican poet and visiting assistant professor of sociology.
The closing poetry readings and reception will be held Thursday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Goodyear Studios of the Goodyear Building at West Louther and Cedar streets with readings by all of the Semana Poética poets. In addition to the poetry readings, the latest edition of Sirena: Poetry, Art, and Criticism, an international and multilingual journal, will be issued during the event.
