Lax helps to 'raise the roof'
Volleyball-a-thon supports local Red Cross chapter
October 10, 2006
The men's lacrosse team crossed over to volleyball to raise funds for a new facility for the Cumberland County Chapter of the American Red Cross. At the "Raise the Roof" Volleyball-a-Thon Oct. 7-8, the men played against teams from around campus and the Carlisle community on the new outdoor court on West Louther Street adjacent to Kisner-Woodward Hall.
With a goal of raising $5,000 for the chapter's building project, lacrosse teammates canvassed the campus for donations. They also received support from local businesses, which provided food and drink.
Scott Dalgliesh '07, an event organizer, says, "The reason we reached out to the Red Cross when we heard of their need was the relationship we had created with the group when our team went to New Orleans last January to help with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts." Also, activities like the volleyball-a-thon are ways for the team members to reach their collective goal of being just as successful off as on the field.
