Devilish good season

Football team captures conference championship.

November 21, 2006

The Little Brown Bucket is raised in victory after the Devils beat Gettysburg to capture the Centennial Conference Championship.

A string of team and individual honors highlighted the season for Dickinson's football team, which captured the 2006 Centennial Conference (CC) Championship, its first outright title since 1994 and its ninth title overall.

This was just the tip of the iceberg for the Red Devils. The team also earned a spot in the NCAA Division III playoffs, falling in the first round to No. 4-ranked and regional top-seed Wesley College of Dover, Del.

Dickinson's team captured the CC championship with a 30-14 win over Gettysburg College, automatically earning a spot in the playoffs and reclaiming possession of the Little Brown Bucket on Nov. 4, a trophy exchanged during football games between the long-standing rivals.

These honors were added to the Conestoga Wagon, which the team took home with a Homecoming game win over Franklin & Marshall College on Oct. 21.

Twelve players received individual recognition for a total of 13 All-CC honors. There were eight Red Devils named to the first team, including junior Chris McInerney, who was recognized as a wide receiver and kick returner; three to second-team honors; and one honorable mention. In addition, quarterback Matt Torchia '07 and linebaker Eric Dube '08 were named the offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively.
