Alumni basketball players visit current team.

December 5, 2006

Alumni returned to the court in early November. Seated, from left, are: Peter Vogt, Leon Rose, Bill Thornton and Dan Allanoff.

The men's basketball team enjoyed a visit in early November from four members of the class of '83. All close friends still, three are former players—Leon Rose, Bill Thornton (a member of the Sports Hall of Fame) and Peter Vogt (whose nephew Andrew '09 plays on the team). The fourth visitor was Dan Allanoff.

The alumni watched a team practice, then enjoyed dinner in the HUB with the team. Besides graduation year, the four alumni share a common occupation—lawyering. Since some current players plan to pursue legal careers, they enjoyed hearing tips on applying to law schools and details about the practice of law.

Also attending the dinner was former coach Gene Evans '49 and his wife Dottie.

Hearing from these successful alumni lawyers gave the students "the chance to formulate goals and visions for themselves," said head basketball coach Dennis Csensits. Leon Rose, a sports agent who represents LeBron James and Allen Iverson among other NBA superstars, shared some experiences from his unusual law practice and entertained questions from the team. The alumni plan to gather again to cheer the Red Devils on to victory this winter at a game near Philadelphia.
