In June 2009, Adjunct Professor of Art Andrew Bale and photojournalist Philippe Brault participated in The Face of the Other, a joint exhibit in Toulouse, France, exploring two locales, Dickinson College and the Toulouse headquarters of the bank Caisse d’Epargne de Midi-Pyrénées.

Their styles couldn’t be more different, but their intent was the same—to capture familiar, everyday moments from an outsider’s perspective. According to Bale, his images are an “opportunity to observe an unseen beauty … perceived only when [a] subject is turned into a photograph.”
