Dickinson College quarterback Ian Mitchell '10 has been selected to play in the 14th annual All American Bowl College All-Star Game Saturday, March 27, at the University of Charleston in West Virginia.

Mitchell set numerous school records at Dickinson, becoming the first quarterback in the history of the Centennial Conference to both rush for more than 2,000 yards and pass for more than 5,000 yards in a career.

The game will showcase some of the nation’s top Division II and III college seniors and free agent players.

It's great to play in these kind of games, Mitchell said. I'm just happy I get to wear the red again and put that Dickinson helmet back on.”

Mitchell played in another all-star game, the inaugural Division III Senior Classic in Salem, Va., in December. Mitchell and the North Team defeated the South Team, 14-0.

“Ian is the first player in our program to be chosen to play in two post-season all-star games,” said Darwin Breaux, the Red Devils head coach. “He is a tremendous athlete. He has been a leader on and of off the field.”

Last month, Uplifting Athletes named Mitchell the 2010 Rare Disease Champion, an award given to a leader in sports, individual or organization, who has realized his or her potential to make a positive and lasting impact on the rare disease community.

Mitchell, a religion major from Newtown Square, Pa., raised more than $95,000 during his playing career in honor of a childhood friend who passed away from a rare form of bone cancer. More than 20,000 votes were cast. Mitchell amassed 8,562 votes, the most among the finalists.

“He has been a leader on and of off the field,” Breaux said.
