ROTC Ranger Challenge

For centuries, people have passed across treacherous terrain by creating rope bridges. Members of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) Ranger Challenge Team elevated this ancient skill to entertainment when they presented a rope-bridge demonstration on Morgan Field.

Ranging from simple two-rope constructions to more complex structures, rope bridges are commonly used by members of the military, scouts, and survivalists who need to cross a body of water, pass above a sudden drop or cover otherwise treacherous terrain. They also are sometimes used as permanent structures.

The ROTC Ranger Challenge Team members demonstrated basic principles of rope bridge-building and created a rope harness that they strung over a long rope. Then, they invited volunteers from the audience to climb aboard.
