Faculty Jazz Quartet


The faculty jazz quartet enhanced Homecoming & Family Weekend with a variety of standards from the great American songbook.

Music instructors Steve Strawley (trumpet), Tim James (piano), Jim Miller (bass) and Dave Zygmunt (drums) performed 10 songs during an evening performance at The Depot. The tunes included pieces by jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and Gil Evans, as well as works by lesser-known greats.

  • Dave Zygmunt is a career military musician who has performed internationally with the United States Navy Band. He is also a freelance musician and adjunct faculty member. 
  • Steve Strawley is adjunct professor of trumpet at Dickinson. He is also band director at Yellow Breeches Middle School and performs with the Buzz Jones Big Band, the Herm Miller Orchestra and other ensembles.  
  • The audience listens to the Faculty Jazz Quartet. The evening concert was held in The Depot. 
  • Tim James is a Boiling Springs native who plays a wide variety of brass, woodwind and string instruments. He teaches jazz piano at Dickinson and plays frequently with several local jazz bands. He is also founder of Harvest Field Studio. 
  • Jim Miller has performed throughout the U.S. in bands that include Third Stream. He is a contributing faculty member at Dickinson.
