Paul Herbert Doney, Thomas Beaver Professor of English Literature
In response to a suggestion to write something about a prof who mattered, I must mention
Paul Doney, who taught English literature at Dickinson from 1928-41.
He died quite suddenly at the age of 41, and the college lost an outstanding teacher.
While his courses had nothing to do with a career selection, they gave me a lifelong
appreciation of the importance of good literature.
