Phil Lockhart

Philip N. Lockhart, Asbury J. Clarke Professor Emeritus of Latin, Professor Emeritus
of Classical Languages

Dr. Philip Lockhart was a godsend to me. Looking back, no one has had a more profound effect in shaping my viewpoints, beliefs and decisions than Dr. Lockhart. A brilliant person and inspiring teacher definitely, Dr. Lockhart brought much more to the table. Dr. Lockhart was interested in the development of the whole person—the principles of faith, love and fun were ingrained in his curriculum. As a student at Dickinson I was deeply grateful for Dr. Lockhart’s guidance, encouragement and friendship. See, Dr. Lockhart knew that the secret to success in life always manifest itself in people and relationships. The roots of whatever success I have had in my career as a teacher and a coach lead directly to Dr. Lockhart. It’s been a long time, but the influences of my Dickinson education and great professors like Dr. Lockhart shine on in my heart and life’s work.
