Life is full of changes... Learn to accept them | ||||
It feels like only yesterday that my mom helped me pack my luggage for my first time away from her in 19 years. I was all set to step on foreign soil, make new friends and experience a new culture. At that point I had not realized that as I parted from one family, another family awaited me—my Dickinson family. As I try to remember my very first day at Dickinson, I recall the bright morning in late August when I met my orientation group. Those few days before college commences are full of fun. It’s a time to explore the campus and meet new people. The orientation days are probably some of the best days in college, when, for the first time, you feel grown up and ready to face the world. Before I realized it, I had completed one year. That first year brought about profound changes in me. I went from being a high-school kid to a semi-seasoned college student. During my stay at Dickinson, I have learned that the college nurtures its students, and by the time they are ready to step into the real world, they are equipped to deal with challenges. I never would have imagined taking astronomy courses as an international business & management major. At Dickinson, one can take classes from various departments and redefine his or her career path.

Dickinson is a diverse community. The leadership programs, the global-education program, the Career Center, the academic and cultural clubs, and much more are unique parts of college life. The immensely knowledgeable and highly approachable faculty members are another outstanding feature of Dickinson. The professors enjoy sharing a meal, playing basketball or even sharing a joke with us. A professor is more like a friend, which makes learning effective, efficient and enjoyable. Education is not restricted to the classroom. Therefore, it does not come as a surprise that Dickinsonians “engage the world.” Dickinson, as a small liberal-arts college, has a lot to offer. There are opportunities for great internships, which provide students with a platform upon which to establish themselves in their respective areas of interest. There also are opportunities to participate in many activities or start new clubs. Dickinson is one of those institutions where students have a say in something they believe in, and they can voice their opinions freely. |
